Businesses in Coquitlam (including Urban Gate) are fed up with paying up to 47% more than last year on their 2011 property taxes. Many people think that there is nothing businesses can do. However, the mayor of Coquitlam, Richard Stewart and his council can actually make the commercial property tax rate fairer, by capping the gap between what residential and business owners pay, and finding other ways to meet their budget obligations. As you may be aware, Coquitlam businesses pay up to four times more than residents on their property tax. This is the biggest gap out of all of BC’s 30 largest municipalities by population. We are working to build on the research the Canadian Federation of Independent Business has already done on this subject with their annual Property Tax Report. We invited local reporters to hear our stories, so they can let people know what is going on in our community.
If you are a local business owner in Coquitlam and have a story that you would like to share, contact Darcy by emailing email@example.com or by calling 604-472-8888.

UFC 126: SILVA VS. BELFORT – SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH LIVE FROM MANDALAY BAY IN LAS
It’s a rematch more than three years in the making, and on December 11th, the Ultimate Fighting Championship ends 2010 with a bang as UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre defends his crown at home in Montreal against heated rival Josh Koscheck.
Koscheck has won six fights, including finishes of Chris Lytle, Frank Trigg, and Anthony Johnson since his first meeting with St-Pierre, while the champion has tightened his grip on the 170-pound title with a seven fight stint that has seen him defeat Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, and Matt Serra. But when these coaches from season 12 of The Ultimate Fighter meet, someone’s winning streak will come to an end.
Detroit will be infused with adrenaline on Saturday, November 20, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship® returns to the Motor City for the first time since UFC IX in 1996. In the main event, two former UFC® light heavyweight champions collide as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson takes on Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida at UFC 123: RAMPAGE vs. MACHIDA, presented by Bud Light and live from the Palace at Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan.
